Reviews

What people say afterwards

  • Was selling it and the trade-in offer was insulting. Mark had it three days and I got £700 more than the offer, privately, from the first person who came to look at it. Photos he sent did most of that on their own.
Declan M. Coalisland · Passat · Protection Detail
  • Two kids and a Labrador. I genuinely thought the smell was just the car now and I would have to live with it. It is gone. The boot was the bit I was embarrassed about and he never passed a remark on it.
Sinéad K. Dungannon · Kuga · Full Detail with odour treatment
  • Came out to the office car park at half nine and it was done before lunch. I never had to take a half day or go and sit somewhere for two hours. Books by WhatsApp, which suits me — I would not have got round to ringing.

Coverage

Where I travel

Maintenance valeting travels. Most weeks that means Dungannon, Coalisland, Moy, Benburb, Ballygawley and Aughnacloy, and I am in Cookstown and Armagh regularly enough that it is worth asking.

Portadown and Craigavon are fine for a full day's work, less so for a two-hour valet — the run out and back costs more than the job is worth, and I would rather say that than quote you for it.

Correction, coating and anything involving the machine stays in the unit. That is not a preference; the temperature and the light are half the job.

Car detailer polishing paint
Who does the work

Mark Rafferty

I spent eight years in a body shop outside Dungannon, most of it polishing other people's repairs back to a finish. The work was fine. What wore me down was never meeting the person who owned the car, and never being able to say how long anything would take or what it would cost.

I took the unit on the Coalisland Road in 2021. Everything on this page is priced, because I remember being on the other side of that phone call. If a job will not come out the way you are hoping, I will tell you before you book it, not after.

Questions

The ones I get asked

Is a ceramic coating worth the money?

On a new or nearly new car, yes. The paint is already good, so the coating is protecting something worth protecting, and you will feel the difference every time you wash it. On a ten-year-old car that needs correction first, the honest answer is that the correction is doing the work and the coating is the smaller half of the bill. I will tell you which one you are on when I see it.

Will it stop stone chips?

No. A ceramic coating makes the car easier to wash and keeps the gloss longer. It will not stop a stone chip or a shopping trolley. Anyone telling you different is selling. If you want chip protection, that is paint protection film, it is a different job, and I do not fit it.

How long do I lose the car for?

A Maintenance Valet is about two hours. A Full Detail is a full day — drop it in the morning, collect it teatime. The Enhancement Detail is two days and the Protection Detail is three to four, because the coating has to cure in the unit and cannot go out in the rain the same evening.

Do you take the car away, or do I drop it in?

You drop it in, to Unit 6 on the Coalisland Road. Parking is right in front. For Maintenance Valets I can come to you instead, at home or at your work — that is the one package that travels.

What if it rains on the day?

Correction and coating work is unit-only and rain makes no difference to it. A mobile valet in heavy rain is not worth either of our time, so I will ring you the day before and move you to the next dry slot. There is no charge for that.

Can you just do the inside?

Yes. An interior deep clean on its own runs from £85 for a small car to £140 for a seven-seater, and that is seats and carpets extracted, not just a hoover. Send me a photo of the worst of it and I will price it properly.

Do you charge VAT?

No. I am not VAT registered, so every price on this page is the price you pay. There is no plus-VAT at the end and no surprise on the invoice.

How do I pay, and do you need a deposit?

Card, bank transfer or cash, whichever suits, and you pay when the work is done. I do not take deposits. If you need to move a booking, just ring me.
