Urgent dental help
Emergency dentist: in pain? Call us — do not wait for a form reply.
Call as early as you can if you have severe toothache, swelling, dental trauma, uncontrolled bleeding or a broken tooth. Our reception team will ask what happened, when it started and whether symptoms are worsening.
We reserve time for urgent problems and offer a same-day assessment where availability and clinical priority allow. The first aim is to diagnose the cause, relieve pain and explain any follow-up treatment.
Call promptly if you have…
- facial swelling, severe pain or pain that is getting worse
- a knocked-out, broken or badly damaged tooth
- bleeding that will not stop or symptoms after a recent extraction
Common questions
What to do right now
What if the practice is closed?
Call 028 9649 6551 and listen to the recorded out-of-hours instructions. For severe swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, seek urgent medical help.
Can you guarantee a same-day appointment?
We cannot guarantee a time, but we triage urgent calls and offer same-day care wherever clinically appropriate and possible.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or worsening toothache, facial swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, bleeding that will not stop, and an abscess or bad pain after treatment all count. If you are unsure, call us and describe what is happening, and we will tell you how urgent it is.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Pick it up by the crown, not the root, and rinse it briefly in milk or cold water if it is dirty. If you can, gently place it back in the socket and bite on a clean cloth; if not, keep it in milk and call us straight away, because the first hour matters. Do not do this with a baby tooth.
I have lost a filling or a crown. Is that an emergency?
Usually it can wait a day or two, though we will see you as soon as we can, especially if it hurts or has a sharp edge. Keep the crown safe if you can, and avoid chewing on that side until we have seen it.
Can I come in if I am not a patient here?
Yes, where we have room. We keep time free each day for urgent problems and will see someone in pain whether or not they are registered, though we cannot promise a time until we have heard what is wrong.
