Check-ups and everyday care
General dentistry: stay ahead of small problems.
A check-up is more than a quick look at your teeth. We examine your teeth, gums, bite and any changes you have noticed, then explain what we can see in plain English.
If something needs attention, you receive a clear plan and estimate first. Treatment may include a filling, gum care or a hygiene visit; if everything is healthy, we simply agree when to see you again.
Book a check-up if…
- it has been a while since your last examination
- you have sensitivity, bleeding gums or a tooth that feels different
- you want a practical routine for keeping your mouth healthy
Common questions
Planning your routine care
How often should I have a check-up?
Your recall interval is based on your oral health and risk factors. For many patients it is between 6 and 24 months.
What happens if you find a problem?
We show you what we have found, explain the sensible options and confirm the fee before arranging treatment.
What actually happens at a check-up?
We ask about any changes since your last visit, then look at your teeth, gums, tongue and bite and check for early signs of decay, gum disease and mouth cancer. X-rays are taken only when they will tell us something we cannot see, not as a routine at every visit.
My gums bleed when I brush. Should I worry?
Bleeding is usually the first sign of gum inflammation, and it is far easier to reverse early than later. A hygiene visit to remove plaque and tartar, plus a few changes to how you clean, often settles it within a couple of weeks. If it carries on, we will take a closer look.
It has been years since I last went. Will I be told off?
No. Many patients return after a long gap, and our job is to work out where things stand and help from there. We will tell you plainly what we find, without a lecture, and agree a plan at a pace that suits you.
