Implant-retained denture, lower arch
The lower denture that would not stay put
4 months, 3 visits £6,300
Bangor
Bangor, Holywood, Donaghadee and the rest of North Down account for a steady share of our patients, and the journey is the thing most of them ask about first.
Thirty-five minutes on the A2 through Holywood and along the Sydenham bypass, then across the city to the Malone side. The awkwardness is that last stretch: you are crossing Belfast rather than approaching it from outside, so the difference between half past nine and half past eight is substantial. Forty-five minutes is a safer allowance for a morning appointment.
The train is a genuine alternative for the shorter appointments. Bangor to Botanic takes about forty minutes and leaves you a ten-minute walk or a short taxi ride away. For a review appointment or a consultation, several of our North Down patients do exactly that. For surgery you want a car and a driver.
We hold consultations on Saturday mornings from nine until one, and North Down patients use those more than anybody else — partly because of the cross-city drive, partly because a fair number are still working.
Saturday appointments are consultations only. No surgery, no fitting appointments. The CBCT scan is done on the day, so you leave with the scan and the plan even though nothing clinical happens beyond that.
An unusually high proportion of our North Down enquiries are about lower dentures that will not stay in, which is less a local phenomenon than a demographic one — this is an older catchment, and the problem is one of long duration.
Worth saying plainly: if that is your situation, the treatment that solves it is usually two implants and locator attachments at £5,900, not a full fixed arch at £12,500. We turn a reasonable number of these enquiries into the cheaper treatment, and the case study on this exact problem sets out what it involves.
Eight spaces on site, free, and a step-free route from the car park into a ground-floor surgery. There are no stairs anywhere a patient needs to go.
If somebody is bringing you and would rather not sit in a waiting room for three hours during surgery, the Lisburn Road is a five-minute walk away and has somewhere to sit down.
Several practices in Bangor and Holywood send us the surgical part of a case and keep the rest. That suits everybody: you have your implant placed by somebody who does nothing else, and your crown made and fitted by the dentist you already know, five minutes from your house rather than across the city. If that is what you would prefer, say so at the consultation — we do not take over the general care of referred patients, and the page for dentists sets out how the arrangement works.
The same as for everybody: the full price list is published, a consultation is £95 including the scan, and finance runs from 0% APR over 12 to 60 months. Nothing about the figure changes with the postcode on your file.
