Newry
Newry is the one catchment where we are not simply competing with other Belfast practices, and it is worth addressing that directly.
From Newry, Dublin is an hour and ten minutes down the M1 and Belfast is fifty-five minutes up the A1. For a course of implant treatment involving four to six visits, that difference is marginal — the decision is not really about the drive.
What it is about:
Price. Dublin implant prices are broadly comparable to Belfast, sometimes a little higher in the city centre practices. Currency movement changes the arithmetic year to year. Anyone telling you the Republic is dramatically cheaper for implants is describing a situation that has not been true for some time.
Aftercare over fifteen years. This is the substantive point. An implant is a maintained thing, and you will be attending hygiene appointments twice a year for as long as you have it. Crossing the border for a routine forty-minute appointment twice a year, for fifteen years, is a different proposition from doing it four times during treatment.
Continuity if something goes wrong. If a screw loosens or a crown chips, you want the practice that placed it, with the matching components on the shelf, at short notice.
Your own dentist. If you have a dentist in Newry doing your general care, coordinating with a Belfast clinic is straightforward. Several practices in the area refer here and keep their own patients for the restorative work, which we encourage.
We would say all of this even if you decided on Dublin. If you do, ask for the implant brand and reference in writing, and arrange your maintenance locally before you start rather than afterwards.
Fifty-five minutes on the A1 to Sprucefield, then the M1 into Belfast and off at Stockman’s Lane. It is a straightforward road and the traffic only bites in the last ten minutes.
Because it is the longest journey of our regular catchments, we schedule Newry patients deliberately: consultation and planning combined into one longer appointment where possible, and short reviews arranged to sit alongside something else rather than as a separate trip. It is worth saying at the outset that you are travelling — it changes how we book you.
Disproportionately, the larger ones. Full arch and full mouth cases make up a bigger share of our south Down patients than of our Belfast ones, which we suspect reflects how far people are prepared to travel for something they have thought about for years.
Those cases involve a long surgery day, usually with sedation, and you will need somebody to drive you home to Newry afterwards. Some patients stay in Belfast that night, which is not necessary but is a reasonable comfort if you would rather not do the A1 an hour after sedation.
The published list applies to everybody. A consultation with a CBCT scan is £95, redeemable against treatment, and finance runs from 0% APR over 12 to 60 months, subject to status.
Sterling prices, and we do not take euro — worth mentioning, since we are asked.
