Accessibility
The building
Step-free from the pavement through the front door. There is a ground-floor surgery, and reception has room for a wheelchair or a buggy. Free parking at the rear, 9 spaces. If you would like the ground-floor surgery, say so when you book and we will arrange it — it is never a problem and you do not have to explain why.
If you need longer than a standard appointment, or you are bringing someone with you, tell us on the phone and we will book the time.
This website
We have aimed at WCAG 2.2 level AA. What that means in practice on this site:
- Every colour pair was checked for contrast. Body text on the page background is well above the AA threshold, and the yellow highlight is only ever used behind black text, never as a text colour.
- Everything works from the keyboard, including the menu, the treatment filter and the pain triage — none of which use JavaScript.
- The focus outline is visible everywhere and is never removed.
- Clickable targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- All movement stops if your device is set to reduce motion, including the scrolling strip of treatment names.
- The site was checked at 320 pixels wide and at 200% text size, with no sideways scrolling. The decorative grid lines are hidden at those sizes.
- Images carry descriptions, and purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers rather than described.
- Headings run in order, and there is a skip link to the main content.
What we know is not perfect
- On a phone the fee table leaves out its Notes column so that the price fits without scrolling sideways. The notes are shown on a larger screen, and reception will read them out if you ask.
-
The treatment filter and the pain triage rely on a CSS feature called
:has(). In an older browser without it the filter shows every treatment rather than a subset, and the triage shows a paragraph telling you to ring us. Both still work; neither hides anything from you. - The map on the contact page is a drawing, and although it has a text description, a plan is inherently visual. The address, the parking and the driving times are all written out beside it.
