§02

Why there are two columns

NHS

NHS dentistry is charged in bands set centrally rather than per item. One band covers everything in that course of treatment, so two fillings cost the same as one. It covers what is clinically necessary to keep your mouth healthy.

Children under 18 are not charged for check-ups. Some other exemptions exist and reception will tell you whether one applies to you.

Private

Private treatment is charged per item, allows longer appointments and a wider choice of materials, and covers work the NHS does not — such as whitening and veneers.

It is the same dentists in the same rooms. The difference is in how it is charged and how much time is booked, not in who treats you or how carefully.

Both have their place, and which one you are on is mostly a matter of what is available when you register. How registering works.

§03

What we never charge for

  • 01 Moving appointments Moving or cancelling an appointment, as long as you tell us the day before Free
  • 02 Questions Ringing up to ask a question Free
  • 03 Re-checks A check on work we have done, within a month of doing it Free
  • 04 Referral letters Writing a referral letter if you need to see someone else Free

§04

Paying

You pay at the end of the appointment, by card or cash. For a longer course of treatment we split the cost across the visits, so you pay for each stage as it happens rather than the lot up front.

We do not offer finance. We are not a credit broker and we have no arrangement with a lender, so there is nothing to apply for, no interest and no credit check. If a treatment plan is more than you can manage, tell us — there is nearly always more than one way to deal with a problem, at more than one price.

§05

Questions about money

Do I pay on the day?

Yes, at the end of the appointment. Card or cash.

Why are some treatments private only?

The NHS covers what is clinically necessary. Whitening, veneers and some cosmetic work are not, so they are private whoever provides them.

Is the price on the list the price I will pay?

It is the starting price. Fillings vary with size and root treatments vary with the tooth, so those are ranges rather than fixed. You get the actual figure in writing before we book the work.

What if I cannot afford the treatment you have recommended?

Tell us. There is usually more than one way to deal with a problem at more than one price, including waiting and watching it. We would rather plan around your budget than have you not come back.

Ring and ask what yours would come to.

There's no charge for asking, and you'll get a number rather than a range.
